Kate Middleton’s Brother James Offers Update As The Princess Makes Slow Return To Work

Kate Middleton’s cancer battle has been mostly private, with very few details released by the royal family. Kate had a planned abdominal surgery in January and disappeared from the public eye. In March, nearly three months later, she made the devastating announcement she had cancer. Kate never disclosed the type of cancer, but said she was focusing on her health and chemotherapy. Her announcement was met with shock and hope her cancer journey would be swift.

Kate Middleton Is Cancer Free

On September 9, Kate Middleton announced on social media that she completed her chemotherapy and is now working to remain cancer-free. Her brother, James Middleton, recently spoke with NBC News’ Kelly Cobiella and shared a bit about his sister.

“She’s doing OK,” he said. “It’s not for me to share on her behalf, you know, how everything’s going. But she’s getting all the right support and focus that she needs. And like anything, it takes time to process.”

After Kate made her announcement in March, James shared a photo of the pair as children with the caption, “Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you, too.”

He told Kelly the photo was special to him, “I like the metaphor of climbing a mountain. It’s something that we’ve done as a family all of our lives. And you have to respect a mountain.”

Kate and James, along with sister Pippa, grew up in the countryside of Bucklebury, England, a far cry from the likes of Kensington Palace. And while her life is not the same, they are still close. James told Good Morning Britain in July 2023,

“I’m extremely proud. I’m always taken aback by how much she does do. But to be honest, she’s my sister, so I know all of her quirks and everything and to see her blossoming in that role, I’m very proud of her.”
