A few weeks after her team advanced to the America’s Got Talent quarterfinals, Emily Gold, a 17-year-old cheerleader and dancer from Los Osos High School, passed away.

During their quarterfinal performance, Simon Cowell gave the adolescent and her dancing ensemble a standing ovation, and they also delighted the judges.

On Friday, September 13, Mia BustamanteGold was discovered dead beneath an overpass on the 210 Highway in Rancho Cucamonga. The San Bernardino Coroner’s Office believes the woman committed suicide, and police have verified that she was hit by a car.

Her family is being supported by a GoFundMe page that has raised over $75,000 so far. “Officers from the California Highway Patrol Rancho Cucamonga area responded to a pedestrian down in lanes,” according to Rodrigo Jimenez, public information officer for the California Highway Patrol, who spoke with People.

A 17-year-old girl “who was struck by at least one other vehicle in the carpool lane on eastbound 210” was discovered by the responding authorities.

At the scene, the teenager—later identified as Gold—was declared deceased.

Gold’s devastated family acknowledged the awful news of her death.

Steven, her father, shared an emotional statement on Instagram. He stated, “With sadness unfathomable, we must tell you all that we lost our beautiful Emily on September 13th. Right now, our hearts are holed the size of the universe.”

“We are seeing how many lives that angel touched and uplifted through the outpouring of love and support we are receiving, and it is what will get us through the most trying time in our lives.”
